Is Gemstone Jewelry Making a Comeback in 2019?

While we can go on and on about jewelry trends that have been popping up lately, it’s time to narrow down the list and focus on the most important ones.

Minimalism has been the center of attention throughout the past few years both within the jewelry industry and the design world overall. Some people are in love with the trend, yet some don’t want to let their old habits die so easily. Fortunately for them it seems that the 90’s and early 00’s are reentering the jewelry industry.

Yes, you heard right, the gemstone trend is back in the business and whether you love bulky pieces or simpler designs, the trend has everything for everyone. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a bit of personalization on their jewelry and what better way to do it than with the addition of gems? Birthstones have a chance to add an extra flair to any piece, but in order for it to shine bright we need to first understand what are the dominant gemstones of 2019.

Opal

While Opals hit their popular strike at the latter half of 2017, the trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. This gem is a popular choice due to its unique blend of colors. Opals have a new found popularity in the West, following the popularity of the gem in Asia. Pink opals in particular are in the spotlight right now. While common opals tend to be more milky in their appearance, precious ones display a wide array of colors.

The color display of Opals is so unique and rare that people used to believe that the stone possesses magical powers. If you’re going for an antique look with your jewelry, Opals should be your first choice.

Aquamarine

Meghan Markle brought back the Aquamarine trend back during her wedding. The cocktail ring that she wore during the wedding as her “something blue” element, caught the attention of people both within and outside of the royal family. After the wedding, Aquamarine rings were all over social media and were being sold out in many stores.

Many jewelers gave their insights into why the gem is as popular as it is and shared their own favorite aspects of it. With the seal of royal approval, it’s difficult to ignore this major trend in 2019.

Padparadscha Sapphires

Pink seems to be the way to go, as the next gem on our list is Padparadscha Sapphires. The gem belongs in the corundum family. It was first discovered in Sri Lanka but has also been found in East Africa and Madagascar.

Its gorgeous pinkish-orange hues have earned the gem the title of a trendsetter. The name of the gem is inspired by the lotus flower that grows around Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Both the gem and the flower share similar coloring and popularity.

At Sarkissian Luxury Studio we love to incorporate various gems into our designs, of course, taking into account our clients wishes. Whether you want to follow the latest trends or want to set trends of your own, our talented team is here to guide you through this journey.
